The Hofburg in Vienna served as the residence and power center of the Habsburgs for over six centuries and is one of the largest palace complexes in the world. The massive site, which was continuously expanded, reflects architectural history from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century. Today, it houses not only the official seat of the Austrian Federal President but also a wealth of world-class museums and cultural institutions. Some of the most significant sights include the Imperial Treasury, featuring the Imperial Crown of the Holy Roman Empire, the Austrian National Library with its Baroque State Hall, and the Spanish Riding School, where the famous Lipizzaner horses demonstrate their horsemanship. The Sisi Museum and the Imperial Apartments grant deep insights into the lives of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth. The Hofburg is a place where European history was written, from the Congress of Vienna to significant political decisions of the present day. The complex connects Heldenplatz with Michaelerplatz and forms the core of Vienna's historic center. For visitors, a tour of the Hofburg is a journey through the time of the mighty empire, with the grandeur of the buildings and the richness of the collections still leaving a profound impression today.
