Feuerkogel is a high plateau rising to 1,592 meters in Upper Austria, situated directly above the town of Ebensee by Lake Traunsee. The mountain gained international recognition following the 1927 opening of the Feuerkogel cable car, one of Austria's first, which fundamentally changed tourism in the Salzkammergut region. The plateau features a network of accessible hiking trails and acts as a primary gateway for more demanding expeditions into the Höllengebirge range. Geologically, it is composed of Dachstein limestone, resulting in a rugged surface marked by typical karst topography. Getting there
The high plateau of the Feuerkogel is most comfortably reached via the local mountain cable car, whose valley station is located directly in the well-known town of Ebensee. For athletic hikers, very steep and demanding footpaths also lead up to the summit through the forests of the Höllengebirge.

The summit plateau is a popular destination area all year round, offering snowy runs during the winter months and extensive hiking routes in the summer. Clear autumn days frequently present visitors with by far the most spectacular panoramic views over the sparkling lakes of the Salzkammergut.
