Mirabell Palace in Salzburg is a Baroque jewel built in 1606 by Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau for his mistress Salome Alt. Today, the palace is world-renowned for its magnificent Marble Hall, regarded as one of the most beautiful and romantic wedding venues in the world. The architecture was rebuilt in a simpler Neoclassical style after a devastating fire in 1818 but retained its imperial elegance. Directly adjacent to the palace is the Mirabell Garden, a masterpiece of Baroque garden art featuring geometric flowerbeds, the Pegasus Fountain, and an impressive visual axis leading toward Hohensalzburg Fortress. The palace and garden also gained worldwide fame as a filming location for the Hollywood classic 'The Sound of Music,' making the site a pilgrimage destination for film fans. Visitors can stroll through the Dwarf Garden or admire the Angel Staircase in the palace, which beautifies the ascent to the Marble Hall with its numerous putti. Today, the palace houses the offices of the Mayor of Salzburg and is a bustling center for culture and official receptions. The harmonious blend of architecture and landscape design makes Mirabell one of the most photographed locations in Austria. Whether attending an evening palace concert or walking through the blooming borders, the atmosphere of Mirabell is defined by timeless beauty and historical charm.
