Bad Aussee is located in the Styrian part of the Salzkammergut, known as Ausseerland, at the confluence of the Traun River's headwaters. The town is considered the geographical center of Austria, marked by a symbolic stone in the spa park. Bad Aussee is the heart of living Aussee traditions; nowhere else in Austria is the traditional costume (Dirndl and Lederhose) worn so naturally in everyday life. A highlight of the local calendar is the annual Narcissus Festival in spring, the largest flower festival in Austria. As a spa town, it has brine baths and health-promoting climate therapies. Nearby attractions include Lake Altaussee and Lake Grundlsee. The region is also famous for its Arctic char (Saibling). Access is via the Pötschenpass road B145 or the Salzkammergut railway, which is regarded as one of the most beautiful train routes in the Alps.
