The town has developed into a sought-after residential location due to its attractive position in the foothills of the Alps. Geographically, the municipality is characterized by the hilly moraine landscape of the Flachgau and Lake Wallersee, the largest lake in the Salzburg Lake District. Historically, Seekirchen is one of the oldest settlement sites in the region, with a history dating back to the Neolithic period. In the early Middle Ages, the town was an important base for the Diocese of Salzburg. The architecture is characterized by baroque buildings such as the prominent parish church and Seeburg Castle, which now serves as the seat of a private university. Economically, services, tourism and small commercial enterprises dominate the scene. Demographic development has been positive for years, making Seekirchen one of the fastest growing towns in Salzburg.
