Wolkersdorf im Weinviertel is a town in Lower Austria, located in the Mistelbach district. It is situated about 15 kilometers north of the city limits of Vienna and, due to its geographical location at the transition from Marchfeld to the hilly country of the Weinviertel, is considered the gate to this region. The town lies in the valley of the Rußbach at 178 meters above sea level. Historically, the place was first mentioned in the 12th century and developed into an important postal and trading post due to its location on the Brünner Straße. An architectural highlight is Wolkersdorf Castle, a former moated castle that today serves as a cultural center for exhibitions and events. The city's economy is strongly influenced by viticulture, with Wolkersdorf being part of the Weinviertel wine-growing region and home to numerous Heurigen establishments. At the same time, Wolkersdorf has developed into a popular residential community for commuters due to its excellent connection to Vienna (S-Bahn and A5 motorway), leading to steady population growth. The Wolkersdorf Industrial Center in the south of the city also gives numerous jobs in the fields of logistics and production. The city thus combines rural quality of life with the dynamics of the Vienna surrounding area.
