Pressbaum is set in the hilly landscape of the Vienna Woods, west of the federal capital Vienna. The town experienced its boom at the end of the 19th century with the expansion of the Westbahn railway, becoming a popular summer resort for the Viennese bourgeoisie. Numerous villas from the turn of the century still characterize the townscape today. A prominent landmark is the Sacre Coeur monastery, a neo-Gothic building complex that now houses important schools. Geographically, Pressbaum is located on the watershed between the Danube and the Wien River, reflected in the nearby Wienerwaldsee. The town is an important hub for both commuters and nature lovers. The hilly surroundings offer numerous hiking trails and mountain bike routes that are part of the Vienna Woods Biosphere Reserve. Economically, Pressbaum is characterized by service companies and the education sector, with proximity to Vienna playing a central role in dynamic population development. The parish church of the Holy Trinity is another example of local architecture and forms the religious center of the community.
