Herzogenburg is located in the lower Traisen Valley in Lower Austria, tucked away in a gentle hilly landscape between St. Poelten and the Danube. The absolute center and landmark of the town is the Herzogenburg Augustinian Canons Abbey, founded in 1112 and based at its current location since 1244. The abbey was redesigned in the 18th century by important Baroque architects such as Jakob Prandtauer and Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and is now considered one of the country's most significant Baroque ensembles. The town's history is closely linked to the spiritual rule of the abbey, yet Herzogenburg also developed into an important economic hub early on. In the 20th century, significant industry settled here, such as the Georg Fischer foundry, which remains a key employer in the region today. In addition to industry, agriculture, especially viticulture in the Traisental wine region, plays a central role. The town provides a high quality of life with modern educational facilities and diverse recreational opportunities along the Traisen River. The cultural scene is enlivened by exhibitions in the abbey and regular events in the town center. The convenient location on the S33 expressway makes Herzogenburg an attractive location for both businesses and residents.
