Grafenegg Castle (Austria)

Weather…

Grafenegg Castle is regarded as one of Austria's most significant examples of Romantic Historicism. The site, originating as a late medieval moated castle in the 15th century, acquired its striking Neo-Gothic appearance in the 19th century under Count August Breuner-Enckevoirth. Architect Leopold Ernst remodeled the castle after English patterns into a representative manor, resulting in the massive tower and whimsical crenelated facades. The building is surrounded by a 32-hectare English landscape garden housing rare tree species. Today, Grafenegg is internationally renowned as a cultural venue, particularly for the modern Wolkenturm, an open-air stage with outstanding acoustics. Each year, the Grafenegg Festival takes place here, attracting leading orchestras and soloists. The lavish interiors, such as the library and the Knights' Hall, stand as testaments to 19th-century aristocratic living and are open to the public for tours.
