Berndorf is located in the industrial district of Lower Austria and is inextricably linked to the history of the Krupp family metalware factory. During the 19th century, the town transformed from a small village into a major center of industrialization. Arthur Krupp shaped the town not only economically but also architecturally and socially. A unique feature of international significance is the Berndorf Style Classrooms in the local primary school, built between 1908 and 1909. Each classroom represents a different era of art history, such as Ancient Egyptian, Moorish, or Baroque, designed to provide children with a natural aesthetic education. The Berndorf City Theater, a neo-Baroque jewel designed by Fellner and Helmer, and the St. Margaret's Parish Church are testaments to the industrial family's patronage. For decades, the town's economy was based on the production of cutlery, exported worldwide under the bear trademark. Geographically, the town is tucked away in the foothills of the Vienna Woods, making it a modern hub for both cultural tourism and outdoor activities like hiking.
