Fischau Castle (Austria)

Weather…

Fischau Castle is located in Bad Fischau-Brunn in Lower Austria and looks back on nearly 900 years of history. The first mention of a fortified complex at this site dates from 1140, with the strategic importance of the nearby thermal springs playing a central role. The current form of the castle as a Renaissance building was essentially created between 1561 and 1577 under the Heussenstein family. In the 19th century, specifically starting in 1817, the building temporarily served as a cavalry barracks for the imperial army, leading to several structural adaptations. The architecture is characterized by a square ground plan and striking corner towers, which give the castle a defensive yet elegant appearance. After a period of decay in the 20th century, the estate was extensively restored and today serves as the municipality's cultural center for art exhibitions and festivals.
