Hisor Fortress (Tajikistan)

Weather…

Hisor Fortress is located approximately 30 kilometers west of Dushanbe and formerly served as the residence of the governor for the Emir of Bukhara. The site features a history spanning over 2,500 years, with the prominent main gates visible today dating back to the 16th century. The fortification walls encompass an area of about 15 hectares, which was strategically vital for protecting the Silk Road trade routes. Within the complex, there are two madrasas from the 18th and 19th centuries, alongside the remains of a caravanserai. The massive mud-brick walls reach up to one meter in thickness at the base and underwent extensive restoration during the 20th century. Today, the site stands as one of Tajikistan's most significant historical monuments, where visitors can examine the reconstructed bastions and the surrounding archaeological discoveries.
