Beinan Cultural Park (Taiwan)

Weather…

The Beinan Cultural Park near Taitung City is the most significant archaeological site of the prehistoric Beinan culture in Taiwan. Discovered by chance in 1980 during the construction of the Taitung railway station, it is considered one of the largest and most important Neolithic settlements in the Pacific region. Archaeologists have unearthed over 1,500 slate coffins and tens of thousands of artifacts, including jade tools, pottery, and ornaments that provide valuable insights into life roughly 3,000 years ago. A landmark feature of the park is the 'Moonstone Pillar,' a massive standing slate stone that was originally part of a prehistoric dwelling. Today, the park features a modern museum, reconstructed traditional houses, and extensive green spaces that document the connection between Taiwan's indigenous peoples and their Neolithic ancestors.
