Water temperature…
Green Island, or Lüdao, is a gem in the Pacific, located about 33 kilometers off the coast of Taitung. The island is one of the few places in the world with a saltwater hot spring, Asahi Hot Spring, where you can relax in hot water right by the sea. The underwater world is spectacular, with crystal-clear water and animated coral reefs, making the island a top destination for divers and snorkelers. Historically, the island has a turbulent past as a former site for political prisons during the 'White Terror' period. Today, the Green Island White Terror Memorial Park serves as a memorial and museum. The landscape is characterized by rugged volcanic rocks, rolling green hills, and iconic landmarks like the white Lüdao Lighthouse. The ring road around the island can be easily explored by scooter. Local gastronomy features fresh seafood and unique dishes made with seaweed. Access is either by ferry from Fugang Harbor in Taitung (approx. 50 minutes) or by a small propeller plane. The best time to visit is from May to September, keeping an eye on the typhoon season in late summer. It is a place for adventurers seeking tranquility and pristine nature away from the mainland.
