Qixingtan, also known as Chihsingtan Beach, is a striking crescent-shaped bay located on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Unlike traditional sandy beaches, it is famous for its smooth marble and quartz pebbles. On clear days, the emerald green mountains of the Central Range meet the deep sapphire blue of the sea, creating one of Taiwan's most iconic landscapes. The beach is a popular spot for stargazing due to the lack of light pollution, and for watching the first rays of the sunrise. A scenic cycling path stretches 15 kilometers along the coast, connecting the beach to Hualien City. While the powerful waves and steep seafloor make swimming dangerous and prohibited, the area is first-rate for coastal walks and photography. Located just north of Hualien City, it is easily reached by shuttle bus, taxi, or bicycle. The best time to visit is during the autumn and winter months to avoid the summer heat and humidity. Nearby, the Chihsing Tan Katsuo Museum features insights into the local fishing history and dried fish delicacies.
