Wushe
Wushe is located in the heart of Nantou County and serves as a vital gateway to the high-mountain regions of central Taiwan. The town is deeply rooted in the island's history, most notably as the site of the 1930 Wushe Incident, a major uprising by the indigenous Seediq people against Japanese rule. Today, a peaceful memorial park commemorates these events, providing visitors with a place for reflection amidst a memorable natural backdrop. The surroundings of Wushe are characterized by dense forests, steep slopes, and the shimmering waters of the Wanda Reservoir. In spring, the village transforms into a sea of pink cherry blossoms, attracting countless nature lovers. The region is also famous for its high-mountain tea, grown on surrounding plantations under convenient climatic conditions. Culturally, visitors can sample traditional indigenous cuisine, which often features wild greens and bamboo shoots. Travelers frequently use Wushe as a stopover on their way to Cingjing Farm or Hehuanshan. The best time to visit is late winter for the blossoms or summer to escape the lowland heat. The journey involves winding mountain roads that offer spectacular panoramic views. Wushe uniquely combines a poignant historical legacy with the serene and majestic beauty of the Taiwanese Alps.
