Water temperature…
Mare Anglaise lies just north of Beau Vallon and is considered a quiet residential neighborhood featuring a pleasant mix of traditional Creole houses and newer apartment complexes. The name (French for "English pond") recalls a former freshwater reservoir once used by the British colonial administration as a drinking water source. The district is dotted with small grocery stores, a bakery, and a handful of guesthouses appreciated by travelers as a quieter alternative to touristy Beau Vallon. Characteristic are the narrow lanes between the houses, leading down to small granite outcrops on the beach from which one can fish particularly well. The beaches of Mare Anglaise are a direct continuation of Beau Vallon and share its calm waters, yet receive far fewer visitors. In the hilly hinterland behind the district run trails toward Mont Buxton offering fine views over the Bay of Beau Vallon.
