Port Glaud lies on the west coast of Mahé and is considered one of the most landscape-diverse districts on the island. Behind the village stretch the extensive mangrove forests of L'Islette and the Sauzier Waterfall, reached by a short jungle path. Just offshore lies the scenic Thérèse Island with its fine sandy beach, accessible by boat in just a few minutes. Historically Port Glaud was long a center of coconut and cinnamon processing; some of the old stone embankments and irrigation channels that once served the plantations are still visible. Today the village lives chiefly off fishing, small guesthouses, and day visitors staying in nearby resorts. The beach in front of Port Glaud has calm, clean water and is a favorite picnic spot for locals. Notable is also the Catholic church of Port Glaud, a modest building that celebrates its patron feast of Notre Dame du Mont Carmel on 16 July with a colorful community procession.
