Jevremovac Botanical Garden (Serbia)

Weather…

The Jevremovac Botanical Garden was established in 1874 by a decree of the Principality of Serbia, following a request by the renowned botanist Josif Pančić. In 1889, King Milan Obrenović donated his inherited estate to the Great School for the purpose of the garden, naming it "Jevremovac" after his grandfather Jevrem. A defining feature of the site is the Victorian-style Great Greenhouse, which was purchased in Dresden in 1892 and remains one of the largest in Southeast Europe. Spanning approximately 4.8 hectares, the garden houses over 1,500 plant species, including a significant collection of tropical and subtropical plants. In 2004, a traditional Japanese Garden was integrated into the complex, featuring endemic Balkan species alongside traditional Japanese landscape elements. Today, it serves as an essential research base for the University of Belgrade and a vital green oasis for the urban population of the capital.
