Pico Mesa (São Tomé & Príncipe)

Weather…

Pico Mesa is a distinctive table mountain on Príncipe island, standing out with its flat summit plateau compared to the island's other rugged peaks. Geologically, it is a volcanic formation whose softer rock layers have been eroded over millions of years, while the resistant basaltic plateau remained intact. The mountain is almost constantly shrouded in clouds, which has favored the development of a unique cloud forest rich in epiphytes, mosses, and rare orchids. The ascent to the plateau is considered one of the most spectacular hikes in the Obo National Park and often requires traversing dense undergrowth. From the summit, an impressive panoramic view opens over the dense rainforests of Príncipe all the way to the coast. Pico Mesa is not only a symbol of the island's geological diversity but also a critical habitat for endangered animal species.
