Sundy (Coast) refers to the immediate beach area of the famous historic Sundy roça on Príncipe's northwest side. Here lie some of the island state's most spectacular and pristine beaches: Praia Sundy, Praia Boi and Praia das Burras are framed by black and ochre sand grains, jagged lava capes and lush vegetation of breadfruit and palms. Offshore, surprisingly well-preserved coral reefs stretch out, among the most species-rich in all of West Africa, reef sharks, manta rays, parrotfish, triggerfish and marine turtles are just some inhabitants. Praia Sundy is also a globally significant nesting site for hawksbill and leatherback turtles, monitored in season by rangers of the Programa Tatô foundation. The sheltered setting and high underwater visibility make the stretch one of the best snorkeling and diving spots in the Atlantic.
