Tsey
Tsey is one of the premier mountain resorts in the North Caucasus, offering a unique blend of outdoor sports and Ossetian spirituality. The horseshoe-shaped valley is enclosed by massive peaks, including the prominent 'Monk Mountain' that stands guard over the landscape. Winter sports enthusiasts appreciate the snow-reliable slopes and the chairlift providing dramatic views of the Tsey glacier, while summer visitors enjoy the cool mountain air and dense pine forests. Beyond its natural beauty, Tsey is a cultural hub. It is home to the Rekom sanctuary, one of North Ossetia's most important religious sites, built entirely of wood without a single nail. Local legend says it appeared where a tear of God fell. Gastronomy here centers on traditional Ossetian pies (pirogi) filled with cheese or meat, which taste exceptionally good after a day in the crisp mountain air. Accessibility is straightforward; a paved road leads directly from the Transcaucasian Highway into the resort. The best time for skiing is from December to March, while hikers and those seeking relaxation will find the period from June to September most rewarding. Tsey is also renowned as a health resort, with air rich in negative ions that promote recovery from respiratory ailments and general well-being.
