The star of the group is the Lower Blue Lake (Tserik-Kel), which is essentially a massive vertical shaft and one of the deepest karst springs in the world, reaching a depth of at least 258 meters. Its water maintains a constant temperature of 9°C year-round and possesses a striking turquoise hue caused by hydrogen sulfide content. While the Lower Lake is a deep-water wonder, the Upper Blue Lakes are shallower and surrounded by lush forests, making them popular for picnics and swimming. Nearby, the Cherek Gorge features a dramatic landscape with a historic mountain road carved directly into the cliffs, providing thrilling views. Travelers often continue their journey to the medieval village of Upper Balkaria to see ancient battle towers and ruins.
