Kislovodsk
Kislovodsk is the jewel of the Caucasian Mineral Waters region. The city is tucked away in a protective valley, granting it a mild microclimate with over 300 sunny days per year. The heart of the city is the elegant Narzan Gallery, where visitors can sample various types of healing mineral water. The vast Resort Park provides miles of walking trails (terrenkurs) that lead through the Valley of Roses up to viewpoints overlooking Mount Elbrus. Architecturally, the city captivates with grand 19th-century villas and its prominent resort promenade. Kislovodsk was once a gathering place for Russian nobility and intellectuals like Pushkin and Lermontov, whose legacy can still be felt in museums such as the 'Chaliapin Dacha'. Local gastronomy blends Russian traditions with Caucasian influences, and the kefir, which is said to have originated here, enjoys worldwide fame. The city is easily accessible by train (including high-speed trains from Moscow) or via Mineralnye Vody airport. A visit is worthwhile year-round, but the atmosphere is particularly magical in spring when the Valley of Roses blooms, or during the golden autumn.
