Borodino Battlefield (Russia)

Weather…

The historic Borodino battlefield spans a vast area west of Moscow and is deeply rooted in the Russian national memory. On September 7, 1812, Russian imperial troops under General Kutuzov clashed here with Napoleon Bonaparte's Grande Armée. This bloody confrontation claimed over 70,000 casualties on both sides in a single day and is considered a major turning point in the Napoleonic Wars. Today, the extensive terrain operates as a carefully maintained state museum, where more than 300 monuments commemorate the fallen soldiers, officers, and cavalry units. Visitors can explore the reconstructed earthen redoubts, including the famous Raevsky Redoubt and the Bagration Flèches. The main museum building houses a rich collection of authentic weapons, uniforms, and personal belongings of the commanding generals. Every year on the anniversary of the battle, hundreds of reenactors in historical uniforms recreate the dramatic events on the original sites, attracting tens of thousands of spectators from all over Europe.
