Talsi, often referred to as the 'Town of Nine Hills,' is located in western Latvia within the historic region of Kurzeme. It is considered one of the most easy on the eye towns in the country, built upon a series of rolling hills surrounding Talsi Lake and Vilkmuiža Lake. The town's history dates back to at least 1231, when it was first recorded in a treaty involving the Curonian tribes. Talsi's historic center retains much of its old-world charm, featuring narrow winding streets and traditional wooden architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries. The Talsi Hillfort (Pilskalns) remains a significant site, marking the location of an ancient Curonian power center that predates the arrival of the Livonian Order. Today, Talsi is a regional cultural hub known for its beautiful parks, bustling flower displays, and its dedication to preserving the folk traditions and crafts of Kurzeme.
