Suvodol Monastery (North Macedonia)

Weather…

Suvodol Monastery, dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, is located near the village of Suvodol in southwestern North Macedonia. The current monastery church was built in 1931 atop the foundations of an older 11th-century church that had been destroyed through centuries of conflict. The monastery is situated in a pretty mountainous landscape known for its tranquility and spiritual atmosphere. It serves as a vital religious center for the residents of the nearby Demir Hisar and Bitola regions. The complex includes the main church building, farm structures, and residential quarters for visiting pilgrims. Especially valuable are the icons and the intricate woodcarvings of the iconostasis, which showcase early 20th-century Macedonian craftsmanship. Every year on September 21, the monastery hosts a large folk festival to celebrate the Nativity of the Mother of God.
