Boat Rides

Hire a small boat to glide through the silent canyons and hidden coves of the lake.

Tikveš Lake was created in 1968 by damming the Crna Reka (Black River), making it the largest man-made lake in North Macedonia. Stretching approximately 30 kilometers in length, the lake presents a dramatic landscape of steep cliffs and deep blue waters. It is a premier destination for sport fishing, famously known for its large catfish and carp. Many hidden coves and weekend cottages dot its shoreline, some of which are accessible only by boat, adding to the area's sense of adventure. The most significant cultural site on the lake is the 14th-century Polog Monastery, dedicated to Saint George. Remarkably, the monastery has no road access and can only be reached by water, preserving its serene and mystical atmosphere. The lake's water is vital for irrigating the extensive vineyards of the Tikveš region. Tourists can enjoy boat tours to observe the rich local birdlife and pristine natural surroundings. During the summer, the lake becomes a popular spot for swimming and water sports. The surrounding hills provide an excellent backdrop for nature photography and quiet hikes, offering a peaceful retreat away from urban life.
