Felsenkirche Lüderitz (Namibia)

Weather…

The Felsenkirche (Rock Church) in Lüderitz is an Evangelical Lutheran church perched on a rock overlooking the town and the Atlantic Ocean. Built between 1911 and 1912, it was designed by architect Albert Bause. Its architectural style is an adaptation of Victorian Gothic, modified to suit the harsh conditions of the Namibian coast. A notable feature is its stained-glass windows, especially the one above the altar, which was donated by Emperor Wilhelm II and depicts the crucifixion. The church was built to withstand the strong winds and corrosive sea air. Its elevated location makes it a prominent landmark of Lüderitz while also offering commanding views. It was declared a National Monument in 1978.
