Warmbad is a historic settlement in southern Namibia, located in the Karas Region approximately 30 kilometers north of the Orange River. It is recognized as one of the oldest European-founded settlements in present-day Namibia, with the London Missionary Society establishing the country's first mission station here in 1805. The town is primarily famous for its thermal springs, which produce water at temperatures ranging from 32 to 50 degrees Celsius and have been used by the Bondelswarts Nama people for centuries. During the German colonial period between 1884 and 1915, Warmbad served as a crucial administrative and military outpost, leaving behind architectural relics such as the old officer's house and the police station. The surrounding landscape is characterized by an arid desert climate, where livestock farming remains the primary economic activity for the local community. Today, Warmbad is a site of significant cultural heritage, offering insights into Nama history and the early colonial expansion into the Namibian interior.
