Diaz Point Lighthouse (Namibia)

Weather…

The Diaz Point Lighthouse is located on a rocky peninsula south of Lüderitz. It was built in 1910 to guide ships safely into Lüderitz harbour. The original lighthouse was a simple steel framework, which was later replaced by the current, more robust concrete structure. The location is historically significant as it is where Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias erected a stone cross (padrão) in 1488. A replica of this cross stands near the lighthouse today. The area is known for its rugged, windswept landscape and abundant wildlife, including seal colonies. The lighthouse itself is not open to the public, but the peninsula is a popular excursion destination, offering dramatic coastal views and a glimpse into the region's maritime history.
