Ozora Castle (Hungary)

Weather…

The Ozora Castle, also known as Pipo Castle, is an extraordinary example of Renaissance architecture in Hungary. It was built at the beginning of the 15th century, around 1416, by Filippo Scolari, an Italian knight and confidant of King Sigismund, who became known in Hungarian history as Pipo of Ozora. Unlike the typical defensive fortresses of the era, this structure was designed more as a magnificent residence, reflected in its elegant arcaded courtyard and spacious interior halls. Following the Ottoman occupation, the building was used as a granary, which ironically helped preserve its walls. After a thorough reconstruction in the 1990s, the castle was reborn as a museum, where visitors can explore the daily life of the Renaissance knightly era, period furnishings, and the fascinating life of Pipo himself.
