Rama Hydroelectric Power Plant (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Weather…

The Rama hydroelectric power plant (HE Rama) is a technological masterpiece of the 1960s and, due to its design as a high-pressure power station, is one of the most efficient facilities in the entire electricity grid of Bosnia and Herzegovina. For its construction, the Rama River was dammed by a massive, 100-meter-high rockfill dam with a central clay core, creating the breathtakingly beautiful, deep blue Lake Rama. The special feature of this power plant lies in its enormous head, which allows the water to hit the turbines with immense force, thus producing large amounts of energy quickly and flexibly, especially during times of high electricity demand (peak load). Today, the facility is an indispensable component of the Elektroprivreda HZHB and not only provides clean energy but has also transformed the surrounding landscape into a popular destination for nature lovers and tourists.
