Source of the Una (Croatia)

Weather…

The source of the Una River is located in the southern part of the Lika region, near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, close to the village of Donja Suvaja. It is considered one of the deepest karst springs in the world, having been explored by divers to a record depth of 248 meters without reaching the end of the vertical shaft. The spring forms a circular lake with intense blue-green water, situated at the foot of the Stražbenica and Čemernica mountains. The entire area around the source was declared a hydrological natural monument in 1968, covering an area of about 160 hectares. The Una is notable for its extremely clean water and richness in brown trout. The surroundings are characterized by untouched wilderness and provide habitat for numerous protected animal species such as the golden eagle and chamois. Historically, the spring was an important reference point for the local population and today serves as a major destination for ecological tourism. Its constant water flow makes the Una one of the most water-rich right tributaries of the Sava River.
