Hercegovačka Gračanica (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Weather…

The Hercegovačka Gračanica is one of the most striking Serbian Orthodox churches in the country, majestically crowning the 400-meter-high Crkvina Hill overlooking the city of Trebinje. Constructed in 2000, it is an exact architectural replica of the famous Gračanica Monastery in Kosovo, which was originally built by King Milutin in the early 14th century. The construction fulfilled the dying wish of the renowned Serbian poet and diplomat Jovan Dučić, who was born in Trebinje; his remains were transferred from the United States in October 2000 and laid to rest inside the church. The expansive complex includes the magnificent church with its five classic Byzantine domes, a freestanding bell tower, a parish house, an open-air amphitheater, an art gallery, and a summer terrace. The striking exterior features a beautiful alternation of stone and red brick. From this elevated vantage point, visitors are treated to a sweeping 360-degree panorama of the emerald Trebišnjica River, the historic Arslanagić Bridge, and the entire mountain-ringed city.
