Štrbački Buk is the absolute highlight of the Una National Park and is widely considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Balkans. Falling from a height of approximately 24 meters, the emerald Una River tumbles over several travertine terraces with immense force. These formations were created over millennia by the deposition of limestone, resulting in a complex network of falls. The river marks the border here, with the opposite bank situated in Croatia. The area is exceptionally well-equipped with wooden boardwalks and viewing platforms that allow visitors to get very close to the roaring water while protecting the delicate ecosystem. Štrbački Buk is also the launch point for the most challenging white-water rafting adventures on the Una, as the stretch immediately below the falls is technically demanding. The constant mist and high humidity create a natural cooling effect, making it a refreshing destination even in the peak of summer. Access is via a gravel road from the village of Orašac, which leads to a parking area and basic facilities like picnic spots and restrooms. A small visitor center provides insights into the geological formation of the falls. The best time to photograph the falls is during the morning hours when the sun illuminates the emerald water most brilliantly. Late spring, after the snowmelt, provides the most thunderous water volume, providing an unforgettable sensory experience.
