Plitvička Jezera is more than just the name of the park; it is a small community that forms the logistical backbone for Croatia's most visited natural wonder. The village itself is quiet and preserves the traditional architecture of Lika, with steep roofs designed for the region's snowy winters. While most visitors rush straight to the lakes, the surroundings of the village offer numerous hiking trails through the national park that are far from the tourist crowds. Here, you can experience the hospitality of the mountain people and taste local specialties such as Lika cheese (Baser). Its strategic location on the D1 state road makes it the handy starting point for exploring the 16 cascaded lakes and more than 90 waterfalls that make this area so unique.
