Nebljusi is located in the eastern part of the Lika region, positioned in the untouched nature of the Plješivica mountain massif. The area is known for its rugged beauty, deep forests, and proximity to the Una river, which forms the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina here. It is a place for true adventurers and nature lovers seeking the silence of the wilderness. Historically, Nebljusi was part of the Military Frontier (Vojna krajina), which shaped people's lives for centuries. The architecture is simple and functional, often built from local stone and wood. In the surroundings, traces of old fortifications can be found, which once served as defense against Ottoman incursions. Local gastronomy is typical for Lika: hearty and simple. Famous is the Lika potato (Lički krumpir) and Škripavac cheese. Meat dishes from lamb or pork are often prepared over an open fire. The rugged nature also yields excellent honey and various herbal brandies, which are part of the tradition here. Nebljusi is an excellent starting point for visiting the Una waterfalls (Štrbački buk) on the Bosnian side or hiking to the summit of Plješivica. The journey requires patience as the roads are narrow and winding. An off-road vehicle is recommended to explore the remotest corners of this fascinating border region.
