The town's development was significantly accelerated by the construction of the Moscow-Warsaw railway in 1871, which established the locality as a crucial transit station. Today, Zhabinka is best known for its sugar refinery, which began operations in 1963 and stands as one of the largest facilities of its kind in Eastern Europe.
