Lida is a historically prominent city in western Belarus, located within the Grodno Region. The undeniable centerpiece and symbol of the city is the massive Lida Castle, constructed in the 14th century by the order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania, Gediminas, to defend against Teutonic Knights. The imposing red-brick fortress, with its restored defensive towers, now functions as a museum and is a popular venue for medieval jousting tournaments and historical festivals. Beyond its medieval heritage, Lida has evolved into a vital industrial hub over the past centuries. The city is especially famous nationwide for its brewing industry, with the Lidskaje brewery producing one of Belarus's oldest and most beloved beer brands.
