Kamyanets Tower (White Tower) (Belarus)

Weather…

The Kamyanets Tower, frequently but mistakenly referred to as the 'White Tower', is a massive 13th-century brick donjon (keep) located in the southwestern part of Belarus. Constructed between 1271 and 1289 by the order of Prince Vladimir of Volhynia, the 30-meter-tall structure served as a crucial defensive outpost on the western frontier of the Kievan Rus'. It holds immense historical value as the only surviving, virtually fully intact example of such medieval defensive residential towers in the country. The tower owes its survival to its incredibly robust construction, featuring red brick walls up to 2.5 meters thick, narrow arrow slits, and classic crenellations. Today, this iconic monument functions as a branch of the Brest Regional Museum, and its viewing platform features sweeping views of the surrounding landscape, including the nearby Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park.
