Noravank (Armenia)

Weather…

Noravank is a 13th-century Armenian monastery located in a narrow gorge of the Amaghu River, near the town of Yeghegnadzor. The monastery is famous for its dramatic setting among tall, brick-red limestone cliffs that provide a unique backdrop. One of its most striking structures is the two-story Surb Astvatsatsin (Burtelashen) church, accessible via a narrow, cantilevered staircase on the exterior facade. The complex was designed by the renowned architect and sculptor Momik, whose khachkar-tombstone is located on the grounds. The reliefs above the entrances are masterpieces of medieval Armenian art, featuring rare depictions of God the Father. Noravank served as a major cultural center and the burial site of the Orbelian noble family. Today, it remains one of Armenia's most visited sites due to its architectural harmony and natural beauty.
