Villa Traful

Villa Traful is a mountain village on the southern shore of Lake Traful, located within the Nahuel Huapi National Park. The settlement lies off the heavy tourist trails and is accessed via the unpaved Provincial Route 65. The architecture is defined by wooden cabins and alpine construction styles that blend into the surrounding native Coihue forests. One of the most notable sights is the Submerged Forest (Bosque Sumergido), where dozens of cypress trees rise from the lake bed to the water's surface, visible during specialized boat tours. The Mirador del Viento, a viewpoint situated on a 70-meter-high cliff, gives expansive panoramas of the glacial lake basin. Local hiking trails lead through the forest to the Cascada Coa Co and Cascada Arroyo Blanco waterfalls. The regional rivers and lakes are recognized globally for trout and landlocked salmon fly fishing. Village restaurants focus on Patagonian lamb, wild game, and locally sourced smoked trout. The summer months from December to March provide the necessary weather for kayaking, hiking, and horseback riding in the Patagonian Andes.
