San Pedro de Jujuy is the second largest city in the Jujuy Province and a vital industrial and agricultural hub in the region's subtropical eastern sector. Located in the San Pedro Department, the city is primarily known for its extensive production of sugar cane, citrus fruits, and tobacco. The economic cornerstone of the city is the Ingenio La Esperanza sugar mill, which has driven local development for over a hundred years. Geographically, San Pedro is situated in a lower-altitude, warmer ecological zone known as the Ramal, earning it the nickname La Perla del Ramal. The climate is humid subtropical, featuring hot summers and mild winters, which are convenient for large-scale agriculture. The city acts as an important transportation crossroad connecting the Andean highlands with the vast plains of the Gran Chaco. Every February, San Pedro's carnival celebrations draw thousands of visitors with their colorful traditional dances and costumes.
