Yungas (Argentina)

Weather…

The Yungas are a narrow belt of moist, subtropical mountain rainforest extending along the eastern slopes of the Andes in northwestern Argentina. These cloud forests form a dramatic contrast to the dry Puna and are fed by the moist winds from the Atlantic, which rise and precipitate on the mountains. The Yungas are one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the country, home to jaguars, tapirs, and over 500 species of birds. The vegetation is extremely dense, with giant trees, ferns, and epiphytes. The region is also a vital water reservoir, supplying drinking water to the agriculturally used valleys. Protected areas like the Calilegua National Park or El Rey Park preserve this green lung of Argentina, which exudes a mystical atmosphere with its steep slopes and constant cloud formation.
