The Busega Toll Plaza is a central infrastructural facility on the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, Uganda's first toll road. Located in the Busega neighbourhood at the northwestern end of the expressway, it serves as one of the main toll collection points. The expressway was opened in 2018 to alleviate chronic traffic congestion between the capital city, Kampala, and Entebbe International Airport. The toll plaza is equipped with a modern electronic toll collection system, accepting both manual payments and electronic cards (E-cards) to ensure a smooth flow of traffic. Revenue generated from the tolls is dedicated to the maintenance and upkeep of the 51-kilometre road. The architecture of the toll plaza is functional and modern, representing a symbol of Uganda's progress in developing its transport infrastructure.

The toll plaza is a functioning road infrastructure, not a classic tourist destination. You can view it from the roadside while passing on the expressway.

As a toll plaza, it operates 24/7 since the expressway is constantly in use. The best time for a brief stop is during daylight hours when the area is well-lit and safe.

Photograph the toll plaza from the roadside without obstructing traffic. Be aware of passing vehicles and use a safe spot off the driving lanes.
Time needed
Allow only about 10 to 15 minutes for a quick photo stop from the roadside. No longer stay is needed as the facility is small, consisting only of toll booths and roadway.

Combine this stop with a visit to Entebbe International Airport, just a few kilometres away. Alternatively, you can visit the nearby Entebbe Botanical Gardens.
Getting there
The toll plaza is located directly on the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, reachable by car, taxi or boda-boda. Public buses do not go to the plaza, so you need a private vehicle.
Insider tip
Keep small change or an electronic payment method ready if you plan to drive through the toll road. The best photography spot is on the passenger side when coming from Kampala.
