Mandela National Stadium, often referred to as Namboole Stadium, is Uganda's national stadium and a multi-purpose complex located on Namboole Hill in Kira Municipality, approximately 10 kilometres east of Kampala's central business district. Inaugurated in 1997, the stadium was built with a $36 million grant from the People's Republic of China and has a seating capacity of 45,202. It is named in honour of the late South African anti-apartheid leader, Nelson Mandela. The stadium is the home ground for the Uganda national football team, 'The Cranes'. Besides football matches, it has hosted numerous national and international events, including concerts, athletics competitions, and cultural gatherings. The facility includes a running track, training pitches, and a hotel. It has periodically been closed for international games due to renovation requirements but remains a crucial piece of sporting infrastructure in the country.
