Suhr is located in the lower Wynental and is now almost completely merged with the neighboring city of Aarau. The history of the community goes back a long way, with a first documented mention in 1045. For centuries, Suhr was an agricultural village before industrialization began in the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, Suhr is an important service and trade location. The municipality is particularly well known as the headquarters of large companies, such as Möbel Pfister AG, which characterizes the townscape on the eastern edge. Geographically, the place is divided by the river Wyna, which gives the valley its name. The architecture shows a mixture of historical farmhouses in the old village center and modern apartment blocks as well as commercial buildings in the newer quarters. The transport situation is well-suited, with direct access to the A1 motorway and excellent rail connections. Despite the dense population, Suhr provides important recreation areas for the population with the Suhrerchopf and the surrounding forests. The social structure is diverse, which is reflected in a wide range of cultural and sporting activities.
