Spreitenbach is located in the eastern part of the canton of Aargau and evolved throughout the 20th century from a small farming village into a significant regional economic hub. The municipality is inextricably linked with the history of modern consumption in Switzerland. In 1970, the Shoppi opened here as the country's first American-style shopping mall, making Spreitenbach famous nationwide overnight. Another historical milestone followed in 1973 with the opening of the world's first IKEA store outside Scandinavia, further solidifying the location's appeal. Beyond its role as a commercial center, the municipality provides a unique cultural highlight with the Bruno Weber Park. The park is a walk-in total work of art by the artist of the same name, featuring fantastic sculptures and structures across an area of approximately 20,000 square meters. Geographically, Spreitenbach benefits from its location in the densely populated Limmat Valley and its excellent transport links towards Zurich and Bern. In recent decades, many efforts have been made to improve the quality of living through the enhancement of green spaces and modern urban planning.
