Lenzburg is located in the heart of the canton of Aargau on the river Aabach. The city's most prominent feature is Lenzburg Castle, which perches on a striking hill and has a history spanning over a thousand years. It is one of the oldest and most significant hilltop castles in Switzerland and now houses a cantonal museum. The founding of the city of Lenzburg dates back to the 13th century, when the Counts of Kyburg established the settlement at the foot of the castle hill. The horseshoe-shaped old town is largely preserved and charms visitors with its historical buildings, fountains, and squares. Economically, Lenzburg has a long tradition as an industrial location; the Hero company, internationally known for preserves, was founded here. Today, the city is a modern business location with a broad mix of industries and serves as an important regional center. Geographically, Lenzburg lies at the intersection of important transport axes, underlined by the motorway connection and the rail hub. The surrounding area has attractive excursion destinations with the Staufberg and nearby Lake Hallwil. The city combines historical elegance with modern dynamism and a high quality of life for its residents.
